Some information about Pinconning Michigan.
Pinconning is
located in northern Bay County on the mouth of the Pinconning River
at the shores of Lake Huron. Pinconning is an Indian name, which means
"a place of potatoes," referring to an area along the river where
they once grew. The first settler in the area was European GeorgeVan
Etten, who put up a sawmill. Later, the Detroit and Mackinac Railroad
built a line through there which "put the town on the map." Pinconning is most famous for the production of Pinconning Cheese, which began approximately 100 years ago. This cheese can be found at the Pinconning Cheese Store. |
